Blue Topaz
Topaz, also known as topaz, is the source of the English word for topaz, but opinions vary. It is said to originate from the Sanskrit word for "tapas", as this gemstone has good luster and dispersion. Another theory suggests that it originated from the Greek word for "topazos", because at that time, the yellow jade was explored on an island called "Topazos" in the Red Sea, which had been shrouded in mist for years and was difficult to reach (this island is also famous for producing precious olivine, which was also known as "Topaz" in the past), hence the name. There was a period in the past when people referred to yellow gemstones as yellow jade, but starting from the mid-18th century, yellow jade became a mineral name, and topaz was the gemstone name for this mineral species. Topaz is mostly colorless, but there are also colors such as yellow, orange, pink, blue, etc. Among them, the orange one is called "Emperor Topaz".
The "topaz" of the yellow series gemstones was known as early as ancient Egypt and Rome. At the beginning, there was a long period of time when Sri Lanka was the place of origin. In the Middle Ages, gemstones were originally worn by clergy and special classes such as the royal family. In the 18th century, they became popular among the general public in Europe due to the discovery of new production areas in the Ural Mountains of Brazil and Russia. It was not until the 19th century that they began to be made into jewelry and became popular.
